Although everyone expected iPhone 5, Apple decided to Announce iPhone 4S

Finally, the moment that everyone was waiting for: The release of the next-generation iPhone device (well, sort of). The rumors circulating around the web never ceased to change opinions about what kind of handset Apple would release next. Well I’m here to put those rumors to rest. Here are the facts!

About few hours ago, Apple announced the all-new iPhone 4S at their “Let’s talk iPhone” keynote in Cupertino, California. This was not a shocking surprise to many; however, the lack of the expected iPhone 5 sure did catch their attention. It was originally rumored that Apple would release a lower-end handset and a higher end (upgrade). What ended up happening? Well, Apple halted the production for iPhone 4 models (16GB and 32GB) and will initiate the production of only an 8GB model. This is dubbed to be the “cheaper” version, or a more economical choice for handset users. The 8GB iPhone 4 will be priced at $99 USD with a contract on your provider.

On the other hand, the iPhone 4S has made its announcement and it could not be a hot gadget for this coming season. The iPhone 4S will come in 3 various memory units: a 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. The prices will be set in memory-consecutive order: $199, $299, and $399 USD respectively. You guys may be wondering, what are the specs to this beast? We can start off by saying that it comes with the new dual core A5 processor, the same that is on the iPad 2 and the one capable of delivering 2x more speed and up to 7x faster graphics than its predecesor model(A4-chip).

On the back of the model, the camera was improved, because as Apple said, a lot of people are taking photos with their iPhones. iPhone 4S comes with an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, flash and lens with f/2.4 aperture. Inside the camera, Apple also made some improvements on the “backside illumination sensor, auto white balance, advanced color accuracy, face detection, and motion blur”. Videos can now be shot in 1080p without having any headache that you might shake the phone and ruin the video because backside video stabilization feature was added in order to remove any motion that could appear.

Apple also improved their antennas and hopefully now eliminated the antennagate problem from the iPhone 4. According to Apple, iPhone 4S is the first phone ever that switch between his antennas to deliver better call quality. It will also feature HSDPA which means its 2x faster than his predecesor(14.4 Mbps). Other than this the phone weighs 140 grams (about 3 grams heavier than its predecessor) and is the first phone that comes with Bluetooth 4.0 technology. With this upgraded hardware, Apple named this device the iPhone 4S. The upgrades are similar to the ones made from iPhone3G to 3GS upgrade.

Will this upgrade be necessary for current iPhone 4 users? That is up to the consumer because it is all based on opinion at this point. An aspect that will help you decide whether or not to upgrade to this device is to look at prices. Apple has just decreased the prices of their current inventory, including both handsets and portable multimedia players. You can grab an iPhone 8GB 3GS for free, and an iPhone 8GB 4 for $99 USD. As for the mp3 player line, the iPod nano will now start at $129 USD. Not into the nano? Well for heavy memory users, an all-new white iPod touch will be releasing on October 12 with 64GB of storage; this unit will cost $399 USD.

Still not convinced what product to choose? The iPhone 4S is going to be equipped with Siri voice control technology, which is a new feature designed to follow your voice and do several things. Siri enable users to perform many tasks that could not be done before with a simple voice command such as: schedueling Reminders, writing Messages, calling people, searching on Wikipedia, discover weather updates and more.
The iPhone 4S will be available for reservation till October 7 and will hit the stores on October 14. It will be sold at AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint! Yes, Sprint users will be able to buy an iPhone in near future.
